At my current position, computing systems and services are widely distributed. As a smaller organization, we tend to outsource a lot of technologies that are not tied directly to our mission.
This gives us a great deal of flexibility, but it also causes confusion around which system to use for different needs. I decided there should be some mechanism to aggregate them (an intranet).
In order to address this, I first identified the services our staff uses on a regular basis:
Then I started a project plan with a strong UX composition. Here’s the scope of work for the IA. There’s an example of the process and the IA created under my card sorting post.
The result was a UW-branded WordPress site that I am pleased to say gets daily use now.
